anyone specialize in stereo repair?

for free? haha but srsly, i have a sony cdx-m800, not sure whats wrong with it, im going to try to see whats up with it but im a noob at it.

Well, do you have another sterio hooked up that does work? So you know it's not a fuse or anything? Have you completely narrowed it down to the actual head unit being the problem?

head unit is def the problem, the flip down thing wont, close because the power wont turn on, going to hook it up soon to try and reset it or sumthing...

cant fix it, b/c we just worked on one of those, the metal gears bind up and lock together, and that cd player is about 3 or 4 years old

So you've hooked up another head unit and it worked? If not, check to make sure that you're actually getting power to the headunit from the car. If you have a check light you can just hook it up to the power wire for the unit and see if it lights up, if so, then it's going to be internal on the headunit and that will get a lot more technical.

Alec posted the next thing I was going to go to. And he's right, if the gears are locked up it's REALLY a pain to fix and not really worth the trouble most of the time.

But Check the power thing first and if it doesn't come on, you can try to open it up and check the gears to see if they're locked up.

(PS. Those head units suck anyway. Might as well get a good one and scrap that one)

yea, but i dont really wan to pay alot for one, i have one it the eclipse now but its the original one, and i need sub control. but ill hook it up sometime and see, and if it doesnt qork i guess im going to have to buy a new one
