PostSubject: Interior Detailing   Interior Detailing EmptyFri 21 Dec 2007, 11:27 pm

The inside of my Accord has some pretty nasty places to it.
I want to know if its feasible to take the trim off by the e-brake to clean it and beneath it.
I was peaking in there and the mung and sticky stuff and all that crap was horrible.
Its probably on par with my engine bay. :[

So i just want to know if its feasible and if so how to remove that trim so that i can have a cleaner car.

One of you detailers should post an interior detailing thread too.
Thanks.

I don't know exactly what you mean but from my experience, Honda interiors are usually pretty easy to take apart. It is usually pretty straight forward like finding the screws or clips that are holding it down. At least on the older hondas anyway...it might be a little more tricky on newer models. Can you maybe get some pics up do show more closely what you mean?

The easiest way to do that would be leaving it on and go to Wal-Mart and get an compressed air duster. It is in an aerosol can and it works great for crap like that. It will clean it right up. It just blows compressed air.

If you don't want to do that, if it is like an integra which it looks like it is, you remove the whole center console piece. The whole plastic piece that the armrest is attachted to and all. On an integra there are two screws on either side of the console piece by the seats. Lean the seats forward and slide them forward to get to these screws. If not there look inside the armrest part at the bottom to see if there are any screws there(they might be under a plactic cover that you pry out) There also might be some closer to the dash on the console part. Basically, find all the screws that hold the whole center console area down and undo them to where you can remove the whole console from the car. Then on the underside of the console is where you would remove the mounts for the wood grain trim pieces.

I say just go for the air duster. You will have fun and want to keep using it. You will end up cleaning in all crevices in your car including around the radio, switches and buttons, air vents...everywhere. Haha.

Im going for air duster.
But i really want to suck up stuff that is inside there.
Ill try to vacuum it. If you move the rubber that runs along the bottom of the e-brake, you can see down in there.

Thanks man.

Nah...compressed air won't do it if it's got sticky stuff. That center console is easy (should be) to take off. Like shane said, it should just be 2 screws under the lid of the arm rest...there will be a little lid at the bottom that you can pop off with a screw driver and 2 screws to take out as seen above. Then you should also be able to pop out the cup holder (pop it open, and just pull up on the lid) and there might be one more screw in there. After that it should just kinda pop out. If not, then they may have changed some things on the newer accords. Thats just how it was on my 2 95 accords.

If it doesn't come up after that, there might be some screws on the side up under the dash a little. It shouldn't be to hard...just grab a philips head and flat head screw driver and go at it and you should be able to figure it out pretty easily. Interior Detailing 550103

From the looks of the picture above, you can probably just undo those couple screws right in there and notice how the console is lifted a little bit from the e-brake boot. You could probably reach in there with a vaccum with it raised up a little. Let me know what you end up doing and if it works out.

Yeah I forgot he said something about sticky junk. Haha. It really isn't hard to take off the console. It might take 10 minutes. Probably less. I can get mine off in my integra in under 2 minutes. I have had to do it numerous times.
