HELP if you know about trucks.

i might buy a 1990 chevy silverado from this guy down the road
he told me he would sell it for $400
which i think is awesome
but theres engine problems but im up for a challenge and for $400....i think its worth it.

but i cant find shit on the internet about 1990 silverados
if you know anything about it
or where i can find anything give me a holler
message or something

good price if its in decent condition. Jus look up a chevy 454 for it and you'll be straaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiit

someone else told me it was a v8 with a 350...

but yeah everything else is good
the tranny just had a tune up
and the exterior is fine
but the radiator has a hole in it and something in the block is making a knocking sound
the guy said something about a bearing but idk

for one they didn't make a silverado back then....it is most likely a chevy 1500 with a 350....what exactly is wrong with the engine? 400 is cheap for a good running truck

if the rod is knocking....don't buy it unless you know how to pull a motor apart and fix it...which would also include pulling everythign and having a machine shop clean it all up

Screw what its got! drop the 454 in it! you'll love it. You'd be better off gettin a used 454 and dropin it in, then u would if you fixed the knock in the 350.
Plus the 454 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better on gas! Well not really but it would be fun

yeah ok i thought they were always silverados
but ik its a 1500
uhh theres a hole in the radiator and another knocking sound
im going to call the guy tomorrow
but when i talked to him today he said he changed the rod bearings and something else
i think he said he could fix whatever was wrong but just didnt have the time or the motivation really.

yeah well if thats the problem i might just drop a different engine in it. depends on if i can find one for cheaper.
but i mean ill have the truck checked out to find out exactly whats wrong with it before i buy it.

you're getting in over your head unless you want to dump tons of money and time into gettign it working right. it would be a learning experience for you....but ti's a BIG project to take on. like i said...if it's knocking...you don't want it

get a civic! great starter, gets u around, and cheaply

Jack ass, he works at a shop, hes gonna know the right thing to do. And you will end up paying a mechanic more to look at it then youwill for the truck

but he doesn't know whats wrong with the truck.

you said two things....bearring and knock.....seeing how much you know about mechanics and how much i do...i'd say my guess is right....you're in over your head. either one of those two will involve pulling the motor apart...and a swap...well...again...over your head at this point

so they are fine...not the cause of the knocking.

and it would be POINTLESS to take a 400 dollar POS to get looked at if u already know its f*&^ed up. There gonna charge you to go through it and that could cost as much as 400. fixin it will be 4 times that. Knowledge shared, good luck

LMAO i only spilled the truth...if you have insecurities about yourself then that's something you need to work on. i never once said you were an idiot or implied that...i even said it'd be a good learnign experience for you...only that it would be expensive.....but i guess you chose not to listen to that....just like every other good piece of advise people give you on here.
