I would also like it to be known I'm not taking a stance in either direction, I understand both sides....

No, what I'm saying is that censoring a link to a car related video on a car related web site makes absolutely no sense.

OKay... well my suggestion is deal with it or go somewhere else... Race850 does not and will never allow street racing conversation and videos to be posted... Sorry to disappoint you

on the site we encourage videos of safe and legal racing and performance minded activities.

but we do not want to be a place where people can find links to street racing, especially of our members street racing!

there have been almost a dozen street racing related deaths in the past month, we have an abilty to make a difference, lets learn from these instances not create our own.

check this info out

2/19/08

Montgomery Motorsports Park promoter Jim Howard plans to offer a
special Saturday night session as an alternative to the dangerous
practice of illegal street racing. Please see his open letter to
street racers below. To contact Jim Howard, call MMP at 334.260.9660
or call his cell phone at 205.515.8360

An Open Letter to all Street Racers from Jim Howard of Montgomery Motorsports Park:

Eight more deaths in a street racing incident this past weekend and
many more seriously injured. I don't understand it. Just a few weeks
ago, we had two of our fellow racers and friends killed right here in
Alabama. As a matter of fact, one them drove right past MMP just to
have a fatal street racing incident 90 miles away. .

I am a
rookie track owner-operator, so every place I go I ask people, "Do you
like drag racing?" Last Saturday, I got an answer that scared me. I
was talking to a young lady (an employee of a local business) and I
asked her the same question, "Do you like drag racing?" She said "I
have never been to a drag strip but my friends and I enjoy watching
the street racing that goes on in Montgomery". I asked if she heard
about the people who had been killed the night before; she had not and
it scared her to death!

I gave her free tickets to
Montgomery Motorsports Park and invited her and her friends to come out
and enjoy running their cars and watching during one of our Friday Test
and Tune sessions (beginning March 7), to race in a safe and controlled
environment. She was very excited at that idea. But I want to do more.

I am committed to stop the street racing and bringing it to
the drag strip. Over 75 percent of all street or grudge race machines
are cars or bikes that are trailered to the race site, then unloaded
and raced on our streets. Why? I am calling on all street racers in
the River Region and everywhere to stop killing and injuring
themselves, their friends and neighbors.

Beginning March
8, I will open Montgomery Motorsports Park every Saturday night and
will let everyone who has a car or bike on a trailer run for free. Car
and driver will be admitted free. If you want to find out whose car or
bike is fastest, bring it to MMP and get it off the streets. If you
have a grudge race and want to settle the score, call me at
334.260.9660 and I will let you and your opponent in free and we will
make a big deal out of it on the PA.

I have lost two
friends in street racing accidents and I will do everything in my power
to stop it. That is why we're beginning Saturday Night Street Wars on
March 8. We will open the gates at 7 pm and race until 11pm. We will
have no scoreboards, just the Christmas tree for starting and a win
light on the scoreboards That's it! On Friday nights, beginning March
7, our Test and Tune sessions will race on the full quarter-mile with
full scoreboards, time slips concession stand and PA announcer.

During Saturday Night Street Wars, we will race on the 1/8 mile and
everything goes! Just like street racing, except we have a safe
environment, a paramedic on duty, and lots of bleacher space for people
to hang out and watch in safety. Our concession stand will be open and
dishing out great food. Think about it...it's a place to race where no
one gets a ticket, goes to jail or gets hurt. Sounds like a winner to
me. What do you think?

I hope everyone will help me
with this issue and spread the word. There will be a small charge for
spectators but that's it! You can come hang with your friends on
Saturday night, run your car, figure out whose ride is hot and whose is
not. You can do this for less than it costs for a few gallons of gas.

There are no winners when street racing goes bad. So why not move it
to Montgomery Motorsports Park and get all the rush of racing without
any of the negatives or risks of doing it on the street.

I
would like to hear what everyone thinks about my idea and lets stop
street racing and bring it back to the strip and help us get our good
name back. We are Drag Racers NOT Street Racers! I will have this
program every Saturday night that we are not having a Special event,
which will be at least twice a month.

Hope to hear from everyone and as always I will see you at The Track!

Jim Howard
334-260-9660

everybody in the industry is tired of being classified as bad because some people still continue to race illegally! and the news isnt smart enough to know the difference in a street race and a drag race!

There are plenty of track related deaths, too. Personally, I don't run my car at the track because the track is more harsh on a car. You all make it sound like such an atrocious thing, when in all reality you are all guilty of it at one point or another.

yes we are guilty of it, but we are older now, hindsight is 20 20.

never said there wasnt deaths at racetracks but their is an ambulance paid to be on scene!

how is a track harder on a car than the street?

Amen,

and I will definately not tolerate it on this site, sure everyone has street raced at one time, but its been nearly 4 years since the last time I have, and I strictly just go to the track now. If I see any posts about the subject, I will delete them, along with the help of all the other Admins and Moderators on this site.

Jesus WTF.............. Read 90% of this before my fucking head about exploded... There's something here thats rubbing me all over the wrong way, from BOTH sides of this argument... The BOTTOM line is that there has GOT to be a compromise of some sort or else this site is going to self destruct... Period...

Race850 has done A LOT for the scene and this area in the short existence... We want to continue doing that... However, we don't want to alienate anyone, I also do NOT like this Nazi censorship YOUR OPINION DOESN'T COUNT bullshit!!!!!

FUCK THAT!

wait, let me say this again, I want it to be clear:

FUCK THAT!

The simple fact is, this is a public forum... Period... You can NOT have a publicly run site and say this and that cant be said... Or you'll end up with 10 friends using the site as a way to instant message one another...

Here's my stand on this street racing bullshit...

YES I STREET RACED! Yes I have sped in the past... Yes I've done stupid fuckin shit that really wasnt called for... But, I dont do it now... I havent in a long time... With that said, there is NO WAY IN HELL I'm about to sit here and tell other people that WE, or IIIII FORBID them to talk about street racing or show their videos... I cant, I wont, I refuse to... Do I condone it, FUCK NO! But Im not going to make others bend to MY will... Dont street race around me, matter of fact, dont fuckin street race around ANYONE... You wanna go off to some deserted road somewhere and risk your life, dont care, go do it... But dont do that shit around other people...

I dont smoke dope... Used to... Know a lot of people that do it... I havent done it in 15 years... I dont like it... I dont condone it... I think it makes you dumber... Slower... Less interesting... But am I gong to tell you that you CANT do it because I dont do it? Nope... You wanna smoke it, buy it, sell it, get yourself busted, go to jail, dont care, go do it... Its your life...

This is a public forum... If you want this to succeed, if WE want this to succeed, then there had better be some kind of compromise, on everything, not just this topic, or else this site will be dead in a matter of months, if not less...

Im going to get with the staff, and we are going to discuss this, because apparently I missed out on the discussion the staff had... *real life has me tied up lately* This is my position, its open publicly... If what I believe doesnt jive with what the staff wants, then I'd be more than willing to step down as admin...
